January Retrospective

31/335: It's been a long week

it's been a long week

Can I take the night off? And watch tv? Or read?

an update

My wounded pride has healed. It's taking the leg a bit longer. I guess it has to look worse before it can get better? Unfortunately it has a bit of sideways torqued kind of pain in addition to the surface stuff (exercise has been fun) but I don't think it's serious.

5 days post-fall

And I really look like a bad-ass with the damage showing between my boot and skirt. :)

29/337: Continuing with tranquility

sunset

When I stopped at the grocery store on my way home from pilates, the sky was beautiful. And even though the photo came out with a really soft focus, that kind of works for me tonight.

28/338: A tranquil evening

Sitting in my living room, candles lit, enjoying a quiet evening. Doing some work, but not worried about deadlines. Cup of hot cocoa. And the knowledge that I can go to bed whenever I want. Ahhhhhh. This is what I've wanted for a while.

27/339: Dinner and a movie, at home

I made Lentils Monastery Style, a salad, and we had some 5-grain Italian bread. Bottle of Pinot Grigio. And watched The Squid and the Whale. Banana chocolate bread baking in the oven right now.

A lovely Sunday evening.

26/340: Boyfriend at work

402 at Work

It's nice to have him visiting this weekend, even if we both had to work.

Soon I will have fresh herbs in my kitchen!

24/342: Because I didn't know how to photograph wounded pride

wounded knee

The scrapes (onto inside of pants) and swelling show up pretty well, but the purple under the egg that has formed on my knee merely looks like a shadow here. It is not easy to photograph your own legs!

23/343: An inevitable shot

the daily grind

My regular order. It gets me through the day.

21/345: Guard bird

guard bird

I bet it's cool to have eyes on the side of your head.

(And you have no idea how hard it is to photograph a bird like this until you try it. Cameras freak them out. Given his size, I don't blame him for freaking out.)

20/346: I cook. A lot.

And I love the colors.

Guess I'm still on a food kick. Or so busy that I forget about photos until dinner time.

12/354: Heading into the dusk

Alas, this weekend 402 and I had exciting plans to run a marathon. BUT. he has the flu. So instead of him heading to me on Fri (while I have meetings from hell) and then us heading together to the marathon, he stayed home and I packed up on Saturday and headed his way for the weekend.

Grabbed this shot about 100 miles away, stopping for gas.

Heading into the dusk

A better shot would have been 402's wasabi-overload face when we went for sushi later, but I wasn't quick enough on the draw for that one.

10/356: You'll have to excuse me

The dog ate my homework. And my day was busy and chaotic and all I can think of tonight is having my bowl of ice cream. I remembered I needed a photo and grabbed the camera, but it's a one shot deal. No fuss. No melting. I want to eat my ice cream, relax, and forget about the crazy day.

8/358: Grooming, a self-portrait

Grooming, a self-portrait

This morning, as I had my tea, I groomed greenguy. Then he decided, in turn, to groom me. I grabbed my camera, expecting him to run away, but he didn't. Thus, we have a self-portrait.

I didn't intend it to be my shot of the day, but I find myself loving this shot.

BTW, that's feather-dust on my nose, lip, shoulder, couch ...

7/359: Driving Home in Traffic

Driving Home in Traffic

It's been that kind of day. Still is. Slow roads, slow computer networks, etc. But at least the colors are pretty.

Sunday 6 January 2008

6/360: Chocolate messages

chocolate messages

I like the messages that come in Dove chocolate squares, particularly the caramel ones. I often listen to these messages. When my chocolate told me to write a love letter last fall, I did. A real pen-and-paper letter, sent with a stamp! The recipient was quite pleased. The chocolates, they are so wise. I think today's message is a pretty good one, too.

5/361: A treat

Pomegranate

I love the late fall/early winter months because they bring clementines, cranberries, and pomegranates.

Friday 4 January 2008

4/362: After 3 weeks away

the pile-up

Eeks. And I'm sure the mail will bring more this week since a few last arrived in the few days before I left. How will I ever catch up?

Thursday 3 January 2008

3/363: Still room for unexpected miracles

still room for unexpected miracles

This is the "Unexpected Miracles" crystal that hangs from the mirror in my car. I figured I needed a few unexpected miracles in 2007. I won't say no to them in 2008, either. I like how it casts rainbows of sunshine during the day and reflects bright lights at night.

Wednesday 2 January 2008

2/364: As we return home

2/366

He was quite the trooper in the car. I hope he enjoyed the sunshine, a saving grace given the cold.

1/365: Before the tree comes down

Christmas Pixie

A Christmas pixie. My grandmother used to decorate her tree with them, and at some point gave some to my mother to hold on to for me. They're not that pretty, a bit creepy at times, and full of memories.
